Nathan’s Holiday Trek 2006

Lars and his daughters prepared a delicious meal, not very traditional--the normal Danish dishes of pork roast etc. were absent. But instead, we had a variety of salads, steaks, and Lars’s home-baked bread.

Day 1: Christmas Eve

I arrived in Mårslet just in time to accompany Lars to church in the afternoon. Most Danes belong to the Lutheran church, and most of them only go to church for baptisms, weddings and funerals--and once a year on Christmas Eve. The small church in Mårslet was standing-room only, a scene repeated across Denmark that afternoon. On an ordinary Sunday, ten people or less attend the service.
