Nathan’s Holiday Trek 2006

Prague couples remind me of Lisbon couples: in both cities one sees a lot of public displays of affection, much more so than in other European cities. I always assumed that in Lisbon this has to do with Latin passion, the warm climate and so on; in Prague it must be....the beer?
January 3rd: a trip to Prague

Prague is only 280 km from Wroclaw, and so I had decided to spend two days there during my stay in Poland. As usual, the average speed on Polish roads was considerably less than on similar roads in Western Europe. But the landscape along the way is pretty.
In the border town of Nahod, there is a statue honouring the Soviet troops which liberated the town in the spring of 1945. The inscription is in Czech and Russian.
Once we arrived in Prague in the afternoon, we set out in search of the true essence of the city: beer. We found a nice watering hole near the hotel, where the beer was cheap and the service friendly. Certainly my brother-in-law approved.
Prague has a rich photography tradition, and it shows. There is an extremely well-stocked camera shop near Venceslas Square; there are lots of photography exhibitions going on at any given time; and it is not at all unusual to see people with tripods out at night.
