Nathan’s Holiday Trek 2006

We finished the six-hour walk at a local restaurant where we had an excellent and huge lunch for a very reasonable price. I had the dish on the right--a half duck accompanied by Czech dumplings.

After this feeding frenzy, we walked back to my car and headed back to Poland.
January 4th: continuing the walk

We continued to pound the pavement and found ourselves on Starometske Namesti (Old Town Square), where we came across the end of Prague’s official Christmas tree and yet another art gallery.
The Old Town (Stare Mesto) is where the tourists are concentrated. If you want to photograph the Charles Bridge (far right), go early in the morning, otherwise it looks like this. There are numerous guides ready to serve the tourists, offering all kinds of walking tours, ranging from the Jewish Quarter to Communist walks.
Here are a couple of the iconic sigths of Prague: the Hradcany castle and the Charles Bridge.
We walked on to the Jewish quarter, which was equally crowded with tourists. We did not feel like paying more than 10 Euro per person to jostle with the crowds. You even have to pay to enter the old cemetery, which we found quite annoying.
We also came by yet another gallery, with three artiste-looking types having an apparently serious conversation outside.
