The city puts on a skating rink on the main square every winter. Although there is not much of a winter this year, at least it is cold enough for the artificial ice to stay icy.
Wroclaw at night
The centre of Wroclaw has really come to life in the past decade. The city has always had beautiful old buildings, mostly constructed during the centuries of German rule (it was called Breslau then). But until recently, these old buildings were in various states of neglect. Today, everything is changed. The buildings which once housed various state-owned boring shops and offices now are in private ownership, have been spruced up, and are occupied by attractive shops, bars and restaurants, but without becoming too kitschy.
This year, Wroclaw will have a huge New Year’s Eve concert which will be shown on Polish TV nationwide. Two days before the event, the stage-building is in full swing on the Rynek.
Mother and daughter window-shopping.
So in the evening, we went for a walk to enjoy the holiday decorations in the central square, Rynek, and the surrounding streets.
