Nathan’s Holiday Trek 2006

In the evening, we went back to the centre of Wroclaw to see how the preparations for New Year’s Eve were getting along. The stage was finished, and several of the performers were rehearsing. So in effect, it was a small version of the free concert that was to follow the next day, but without the crowds--although quite a few people came out to have a look.
December 30th: getting ready for New Year’s Eve

My second full day in Wroclaw was gorgeous and not at all wintry. This is dawn, around 7:30 a.m., as viewed from my sister’s balcony.
My sister and her husband recently bought a piece of land in a village about 30 km from Wroclaw. It looks to be a good investment, since the city is expanding in that direction, and new houses are springing up around their plot. We drove out to have a look, and my brother-in-law was accosted in a friendly way by one of the old-timers. The woman has lived in the village since 1950--she certainly has seen change!
This is where my sister lives, on the 11th floor of this apartment building. It is not pretty but it is an interesting example of early 1970s Communist architecture, and the location is very good.
